House Wiring Diagram: Appliances
Before installing a dishwasher with a house wiring diagram, you must first install a dedicated circuit to provide power to the appliance.
The dishwasher can be hardwired, with the cable wire going directly to the appliance's power junction box, or it can be wired using a cord and
plug that's connected to a dedicated receptacle normally installed below a kitchen counter and near the sink.
If the wiring will go directly to the dishwasher's junction box, be certain to leave adequate wiring between the wall and the box.
The most likely mistake a homeowner will make is to merely extend the cable to the box and wire it.
But if you ever have to slide the dishwasher forward to work on it, there won't be enough slack in the wire to permit movement of the
appliance.
Always leave an adequate length of wire (3 to 4 feet) looped behind the dishwasher before extending it to the junction box.
Characteristically, the power junction box will be mounted behind the dishwasher's kick panel.
To expose the box, simply remove the panel.
Many house wiring diagram dishwashers have a built-in electric dryer.
The dryer is an ordinary heating element.
It's a circular device made of metal that's found at the inside bottom of the dishwasher.
This type of dryer draws a great deal of current because it uses the same 120-volt circuit that feeds the dishwasher.
For this reason, you should use 12-gauge wire and run the dishwasher on its own circuit.
Most dishwashers have their own junction DOX located behind I the kick panel.
Gain access to it by simply removing the panel (inset).
Then pull a power cable from the circuit panel into this box.
Make sure to leave a wire loop behind the dishwasher so you can pull out the appliance without disconnecting this cable.
Join the black fixture wire to the black power wire using a wire connector.
Do the same with the white wires.
Then attach the ground wire from the power cable to the grounding screw inside the box.
Finish up by the house wiring diagram reinstalling the box cover and the dishwasher's access panel.
